After suffering an injury during his debut game as a Dallas Maverick, Anthony Davis is now looking at weeks of rehabilitation due to an abductor strain, which, according to Shams Charania, may keep him off the hardwood for several weeks. Reporting for SportsCentre, Charania says, “The Mavericks will have a cautious rehab for AD. I’m told that the expectation is that Davis will need rehabilitation in the coming weeks for that adductor injury.”
Davis, who had a dominant performance on his debut with the Mavericks, scoring 26 points and grabbing 16 rebounds, was visibly uncomfortable after a non-contact injury late in the third quarter. The 31-year-old would downplay the injury in the postgame interview by saying, “…it’s nothing serious. I’m fine,” however, early reports by Shams and Tim MacMahon suggested that the injury could leave Davis off the court for at least a month. This update by Shams only confirms that report, and it’s now looking a little more serious for Davis than initially expected.
The former Lakers star had already missed a few games due to an ab strain, so to have another injury quickly follow suit is a brutal blow for him and the Dallas Mavericks, who’ve been under quite the fire of late after trading away their former franchise player Luka Dončić. Here’s hoping rehab goes well for the star power forward so he can return to tame some of those flames and get back to playing alongside a formidable lineup headed by Kyrie Irving.
