In a recent episode of the Official Xbox Podcast, Xbox Games Studios Head Craig Duncan sat down with host Tina Amini to speak on Xbox’s new and upcoming releases. When asked about Fable, Duncan confirmed that the action RPG will be delayed to 2026 after the studio had previously confirmed a 2025 release window.
“We’re really excited about [Fable’s] progress. Really excited about where Playground [Games] are. We previously announced Fable as 2025. We are actually going to give Fable more time. It’s going to ship in 2026 now. While I know that’s not maybe the news people want to hear, what I want is to assure people that it’s definitely worth the wait,” said Duncan. He would go on to say that he has “unequivocal confidence” in Playground Games as a studio, going to list their past success with the Forza series.
Xbox has hit somewhat of a stride in recent months with both Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Avowed getting generally positive reviews. 2025 also looks to be a promising year with titles like South of Midnight and Gears of War: E-Day on the horizon. Though delays are disheartening, they almost always are a good thing for studios and result in a better video game. The Fable franchise has been dormant for quite some years, but hopefully, fans of the games can be patient for another year as they await the return of this beloved series.
