It was an emotional night this past Tuesday as the Los Angeles Lakers hosted the Dallas Mavericks for the first time since the shocking trade that saw Anthony Davis and Luka Dončić swap squads. Dončić would score a triple-double in the Lakers win while Davis looked on from the sidelines after suffering an unfortunate injury in his Mavericks debut on February 8th.

During the first quarter of the game, the Lakers would play a tribute video for Davis on the Crypto.com arena video board as a thank-you for all the success the former All-Star forward had brought to the team, which includes a 2020 NBA Championship. Davis smiled and waved to the crowd, who gave him a standing ovation. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times afterwards, Davis said, “I couldn’t really get a chance to like, really, dissect the video and feel what I wanted to feel. But that’s the first time I had that, and I think that it was really dope for the Lakers to do, obviously, and I’m honoured and appreciative, for them even considering to do that for me.”

When asked about the trade, Davis responded candidly: “When it happened, I honestly didn’t know s–,” going on to say that the first thing he did was FaceTime his “running mate” LeBron James, who reportedly also wasn’t privy to the trade. Davis, however, wasn’t entirely convinced that this trade happened as out of the blue as reports have suggested. “Everybody’s saying nobody knew and all this other s—. I just don’t believe it. But, hey man, I’m past that. I’m ready to move forward with Dallas, try to get a championship there with these guys.”

The big man seems to be in good spirits and has seemingly moved on from all the drama that’s sparked from this trade. And if his first game was any indication of his fit with this Mavericks roster, then Dallas could be a force to be reckoned with come next season.
