In a public statement yesterday, People Can Fly, the Polish game developers who made 2013’s Gears of War: Judgement and 2011’s Bulletstorm, announced that they are joining The Coalition as co-development partners for the upcoming and much-anticipated prequel to the Gears franchise, Gears of War: E-Day.
“We are honored to return to the world of Gears of War, a franchise deeply embedded in our studio’s history. As lead developer of the iconic Gears of War: Judgment and co-development partner on Gears of War 1-3, we have always been passionate about the series and its legacy,” the statement reads, capping off by saying that the studio is “pouring everything we have into creating an experience that will exceed expectations.”
Nothing was shared about what the studio will be helping with specifically. Although Gears of War: Judgement wasn’t as highly praised as the original trilogy, People Can Fly’s history with the franchise and love for its world should bode well for the game and hopefully result in a positive partnership with The Coalition. Gears of War: E-Day was officially announced during the Xbox Games Showcase last June. The in-engine trailer showcased a young Marcus Fenix fighting off a singular Locust to the tunes of “Mad World.”
We have yet to receive an official release date for E-Day, though reports suggest that a late-2025 window is what’s being targeted by Microsoft.
