If you had told me a couple of weeks ago that the second-seeded Boston Celtics were going to get knocked out of the first round by the seventh-seeded 76ers, after being up 3-1, I would’ve said that thing that woman from When Harry Met Sally said to that waiter.
But that is the reality in which we are currently living, with the 76ers moving forward to the second round to face the New York Knicks. The second round has some very interesting match-ups, so let me tell you how I think it’s all going to pan out.
Knicks vs 76ers
New York blew out Philadelphia by almost 40 points in Game 1. Both Maxey and Embiid had a hard time offensively, while Brunson had one of the most efficient 35-point games I’ve ever seen. Neither of which will likely be the norm as the series continues, but either way, I don’t think Philly has what it takes to overcome the firepower of the Knicks. I can see them winning a game or two, but I think this series goes to New York—Knicks in six, if not five.
Pistons vs Cavaliers
Neither of these teams should have taken seven games to get out of the first round, yet they did, which was quite confusing, to say the least. Would’ve loved my Raptors to be here, but alas, RJ’s heroics weren’t enough. The Pistons were able to get a fairly comfortable win in Game 1, even though Cade had an off night. They’re also the better defensive team, though the Cavs are the better offensive one. They each won two games against one another in the regular season, as well, which makes this match-up all the more interesting. It’s a toss-up, but I’m taking the Pistons in seven.
Timberwolves vs Spurs
Wemby had a terrible shooting night in Game 1, yet San Antonio only lost by two. With DiVincenzo out for the season, I find it hard to believe the Wolves have a chance against one of the best offensive and defensive teams in the West. Though nobody expected them to outplay the Nuggets in the first round after Edwards and Donte went down, I don’t think lightning can strike twice. Spurs in six.
Thunder vs Lakers
No Luka? No chance. Thunder in five, maybe six if The King keeps up his f*ckery.
And there you have it, my predictions for the second round of the 2026 NBA playoffs. Let me know yours in the comments!
