Seeing as I was pretty much bang on with my predictions for the 2nd round match-ups in this year’s NBA Playoffs (aside from Detroit, who, I thought would make it out of Game 7 victorious, but, alas, Harden’s BS antics proved too much) I’m feeling pretty good about my thoughts on the Conference Finals—here’s who I think will make it out of both conferences.

Knicks vs. Cavaliers

To be frank, I’m genuinely surprised the Cavs are even in this position. Not because they’re not a good team (they are), but because when looking at this year’s Eastern Conference at the end of the regular season, I doubt many would’ve picked them to be the ones to make it this far. However, with their experience, rebounding prowess anchored by Allen and Mobley, one of the best back courts in the league with Harden and Mitchell, all brought together with the coaching of Atkinson, it becomes less surprising the longer you think about it.

Still, I don’t think they have a chance with a well-rested Knicks. New York are simply too much to handle on the offensive end, and are no slouch on defense, either. With the amount of heart and grit this team plays with, coupled with the backing of the most raucous crowd in the NBA, Cleveland are going to have a very, very hard time at The Garden. I’ll give the Cavs a game or two, but I think Big Body Brunson is going to will his team to The Finals in no more than six games.

Spurs vs. Thunder

Wemby had one of the greatest playoff performances of all-time in Game 1 as the Spurs stole a win in Oklahoma after a double-overtime thriller. San Antonio were the only team that gave OKC some trouble during the regular season, so it’s no surprise that they were able to make Shai and his brothers in blue finally break a sweat this post-season. Wemby is a force to be reckoned with in the paint, and can stretch the floor when needed. Although he doesn’t have anywhere the help Shai has, Castle and Vassel are a great two-three punch.

That being said, experience still plays a huge role in the playoffs. Going into this match-up, I was ready to say that I don’t think the Spurs have what it takes to overcome the championship pedigree of OKC; they’re simply too good, too polished a team to beat in a seven-game series. However, after last night, Wemby and his squad showed a level of poise and resilience you often don’t see from such a young team. My mind is still telling me OKC in six, but I’m going to go with my heart and say Spurs in seven.

Let me know who you think will make it out to this year’s NBA Finals in the comments!
